CHANDIGARH: Indications are that Sikh militants fighting for a separate country to be known as

Khalistan are regrouping and are poised to strike back at the Indian state after lying low for some time in the wake of mounted police pressure on them.

The Babbar Khalsa International which lost some of its leading activists recently announced that it would now be headed by Bhai Wadhawa Singh as “mukh sewadar” in place of Bhai Sukhdev Singh Babbar. The succession was announced in a press release by Bhai Harmit Singh Bhauwa and Bhai Rapinderjit Singh Toni, A meeting of prominent B.K.I. leaders held somewhere in Punjab appealed to Khalsa Panth to cooperate with Bhai Wadhawa Singh Babbar and his associates, The meeting also paid tributes to Bhai Sukhdev Singh, Bhai Nachhattar Singh Fauji, Bhai Daljit Singh Dalli, Bhai Harpal Singh Chaunta, Bhai Baldev Singh Bhakumajra, Bhai Gurmit Singh Aghi and Bhai Gurmit Singh Ropar.

Bhai Sukhdev Singh Babbar’s succession indicates that the Babbars have recovered from the shock of the death of their “mukh sewadar” at the hands of the Indian police.

Reports are that anti-Indian actions have been stepped up by the B.K.I and other militant activities. For instance, Bhai Balwinder Singh Bullet of the B.K.I claimed that the and his group had organized an attack on a Punjab police contingent at a place between Bajowala and Beerewala villages killing constable Gurmail Singh and injuring two other commandos. The militant group said that it had taken away S.L.R. and ammunition belonging to the police contingent.

The Panthic committee association with Baba Wassan Singh Jaffarwal held a meeting near Khaman on, In a resolution, the committee ridiculed the claims put Out by chief minister Beant Singh and police chief K.P.S. Gill to the effect that militancy in Punjab had been overpowered. The Sikh militancy could not come to an end so long as Sikhs remain loyal to the course prescribed by the Gurus. So many “Subedar” came to Punjab and went away to suppress Sikh militancy but non succeeded so far. The present “Subedar,” too, will have to suffer humiliating defeat, the militant organization added.

The Khalistan Commando Force met somewhere near Malerkotla to chalk out its next course of action. The meeting was chaired by Bhai Paramjit Singh Panjwar. The Khalistan Light Infantry, evidently, a new organization, met somewhere in Punjab, The K.L.I. warned the Sector 11 police station at Chandigarh to beware of the consequences of the harm done to the innocent children of Bhai Mahal Singh Babbar. Rajinder Singh and Gurpreet Singh were picked up by the Chandigarh police from Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Chandigarh last month, Their whereabouts remain unknown.
