DHAKA(PTI): Bangladesh is hopeful of reaching an understanding with India on the issue of Ganges water sharing and Prime: Minister Khaleda Zia is looking forward to her Indian counterpart P.V.Narasimha Rao’s visit to Dhaka, a top cabinet minister was quoted Aug.21 as saying.

The two prime ministers are likely to meet in Dhaka by October this year, irrigation and flood control minister Maj Gen (Retd) Majid Ul Huq told Bengali newspaper ‘Banglabazar Patrika’ in an interview.

He said water resources minister V.C Shukla had agreed to involve of Nepal in sorting out the Ganges water sharing dispute and an accord on this was in the final stages but all was abandoned at the last moment.

“It is still a mystery to me as to why the accord could not be reached eyen after Shukla himself agreed to involve Nepal in the matter,” Majid Ul Huq said.
