BEIJING: A lops State Department official flew to the Chinese Capital Sept.7 and sought to patch up relations chilled by U.S. plans to sell fighter jets to Taiwan, but neither side announced any improvement.
Chinese officials instead warned that the United States would be responsible “for the serious consequences arising from its wrong action” in agreeing to sell 150 F-16s to Taiwan, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported,
