NEW YORK: Ms. Elizabeth Colon, a candidate in the primaries for the 12th Congressional New York District, was Sept.9,1992 “enthusiastically” endorsed by the powerful “New York Times.” Ms. Elizabeth Colon, who hails from Puerto Rico, is challenging Congressman Stephen Solarz of the House Bank “Rubber Check” fame, from a newly redistricted constituency, September 6, Ms.Colon was the guest of Honor at the Richmond Hill Gurdwara Sahib. The Sangat deeply appreciated her promise of support and demonstrated its respect for the candidate by contributing generously to her election fund, Earlier Ms, Colon addressed a large and enthusiastic joint Sikh/Kashmiri/ Pakistani rally in New York where she promised, if elected, to support the right of Self-determination for the oppressed minorities in India. ‘The Sikh and Muslim cab owners have promised to transport her voters free of charge on election day. The joint Sikh/Muslim rally in New York, aroused deep emotions of brotherhood among the Sikhs and Muslims of New York.
The New York Times editorial (September 9) commented “Elizabeth Colon, a child of the Lower East Side, stands out because of her years of experience working with different ethnic groups, including different Latino groups. Her Albany lobbying experience and her open, constructive manner give her great promise as a legislator who can unify what she calls “this diversity district. “We recommend her enthusiastically.”
