LUCKNOW (PTI): At least 35 people were feared killed in the incidents of cloudburst and landslides in Chamoli, Pithoragarh and Pauri Garhwali districts of the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh as torrential rains in the Garhwal hills disrupted normal life.
Official reports received in the state capital Luck now said 14 persons were buried alive in house collapses in the Gadni bazar in Chamoli district and a large part of the market was almost washed away in a cloudburst on September 4.
Many persons are feared trapped in the debris of scores of buildings which collapsed as a result of incessant rains in the region.
Officials did not rule out more casualties in the region and said road telecommunication links have been snapped. Unofficial toll has been estimated at nearly 35.
