JAKARTA: The Afghanistan president Buhranuddin Rabbani on Sept.4 hinted at putting the former president Najibullah on trial after his custody was negotiated with the United Nations.
Addressing a Press Conference here, Rabbani said negotiations were continuing with the U.N, to decide the future of Najibullah.
Since Najibullah did not avail of the general Amnesty announced by the Mujahideen government, he would have to be questioned,” he stated.
Rabbani said Najibullah was still in Kabul lodged in one of the U.N. offices.
He described the Hezb-E-Islami leader, Gulbaddin Kekmatyar, as a “criminal” and blamed him as well as the communists for atrocities against the people of Afghanistan.
Rabbani also said while negotiating a cease-fire in the country, he did not accept any of the demands put forward by Hekmatyar.
