LUDHIANA: The Shiromani Akali Dal President, Parkash Singh Badal recently described broad-day-light rape of democracy, the government’s crackdown on innocent and peacefully protesting workers and sympathizers at Alamgir.
In a statement released from jail through the president of the youth wing of the party, Amrik Singh Daliwal, Badal said that the mid-summer madness of the environment had only vindicated the theme of the anti-repression rally. The government’s action clearly showed that it had no regards for or sensitivity to civilized norms of human behavior. “It is a rape of innocence and, for this, history will never forgive the power drunk people,” Badal said adding that the fight for democracy and human rights could continue till the repressive machinery was dismantled and peoples civil liberties were fully restored.
