SRINAGAR(PTI):Four top state government officials including Kashmir divisional commissioner, Wajahat Habibullah, Aug.24 escaped an attempt on life.
Elsewhere in the valley, five per sons, three of them militants, were killed in militancy related violence since Tuesday evening.
Militants hurled grenades and fired at the vehicles of the officials who were coming out of a meeting at Sopore, 55Kms from here, an official spokesman said.
In the exchange of fire between the militants and the security guards escorting the four officers, a militant was killed and a police~ man received bullet wounds, he said.
Habibullah, accompanied by the Baramulla development commissioner and district police chief had gone to Sopore for a meeting, the spokesman said, two infiltrators were gunned down by troops in curfew bound five km border belt in north Kashmir Tuesday, the spokesman said.
He said the militants were asked to surrender but they ignored the signal and opened fire on the troops who returned fire resulting in the death of two militants.
