CHANDIGARH: The Akali Dal (Badal) reposed confidence in what it described as “unswerving, farsighted and dynamic leader ship” of party president Parkash Singh Badal in the wake of the inner party crisis.

A resolution to this effect was passed at a meeting of the party working committee and distract presidents.

The resolution said the program and policies of the party shaped by Badal had got wide endorsement from the people who had repeatedly displayed their total faith in his leadership,

Briefing newspersons after the meeting, party secretary general Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said the need for expressing faith in the leadership of Badal was felt in view of speculations in the press about party unity, — Of late, SGPC president Gurcharan Singh Tolira has been distancing himself from Badal and he was the only stalwart from Akali Dal (Badal) to participate in the Shaheedi conference organized by Akali Dal (Longowal) on August 20 last at Longowal ‘village in Sangrur district, giving me to speculation about realignment in the Akali ranks. He has not been attending party meetings for some Uimeand preferred to abstain this also. Dhindsa said Tohra had gone to Himachal Pradesh for about a week. The issue cropped up at the meeting and it was felt that the differences should be sorted out.

Ala separate news conference. Akali Dal (Manjit) president Manjit Singh, while commenting upon Akali unity, said the traditional leaders who attended the Longowal Conference were traj tors who were responsible for sending ‘Security forces in the Golden Temple complex and had a history of betrayal, He said the Longowal conference was a conclave of opportunists, however, he refused to comment on Badal.
