PARIS(PTI): French Telecommunications giant Aleatel Alsthom is proposing to set up a Joint venture with India on the production of all ranges of micro Wave equipment and is ready to supply mobile telephone systems for rural communications. The firm is negotiating with the Punjab communications limited in Chandigarh on manufacture of a variety of microwave equipment for which it foresees a 100million dollar market in India.
Alcatel is planning to invest 1015 million dollars in the joint venture and is seeking a 51% capital sharing, unlike an earlier venture with PCL to which it transferred microwave technology without capital sharing, If the deal comes through, it will be the second major joint venture by the telecommunications company in India. It has already set up a joint venture with modis in Delhi for production of switching systems.
Production of the Indian plant is rising by half a million digital lines annually, Dechau said.
