COLOMBO (PTI): LTTE militants killed 22 Sri Lankan soldiers, including an officer, and 17 civilians in an attack in the farming village of Janakpura near Weli Oya in the northeastern Mullaithivu district July 25, the military said.
The militants attacked the security forces’ posts at Kovilpoint, Kokkutuduvai and Janakpura simultaneously with Mortar and small arms fire.
Twenty-one soldiers and a civilian were killed when nearly 200 militants stormed the north and south wings of the army campus. In Janakpura, 16 civilians were killed.
