CHANDIGARH: Supporters of Beant Singh in Punjab Congress(I) are making out a case for exempting him from the principle “one man, one post” adopted by the ruling party according to party circles here,

The executive committee of the Punjab Pradesh Congress (I) as well as the state’s cabinet and the Punjab Congress (I) legislature party have adopted resolutions requesting Prime Minister Narasimha Rao to exempt the Punjab chief minister from the principle in view of the “peculiar situation” obtaining in the state. The resolutions have been managed by the pro-Beant Singh elements to counter pressures from former Punjab Congress (I) president Santokh Singh Randhawa staking claim to the post again which is now held by the chief minister.

The chief minister is likely to buy peace with Randhawa by offering him the post of vice-chairman, Punjab state planning board, in the rank of cabinet minister.

Several other Congress (I) leaders are also likely to be accommodated in boards or corporations as their heads soon, These include Harcharan Singh Nero who enjoys the chief minister’s support.
