Stockton: July 4, saw the mayor of Stockton, Joan Darrah, speaking to the local Sikh Sangat and assuring them that they were a valuable, integral part of this multicultural city and that they had a true friend in City Hall. She told the Sikhs that she was happy to be present on American Independence day with people that Stock ton is justly proud of.
The mayor was introduced to the congregation by Sardar Sukhminder Singh Chahal, who welcomed her on behalf of the Sangat. Gurdwara President, Sardar Ujjal Singh Dhatt presented the city official with a plaque which honored her contributions to the community. Sardar Indarjit Singh Gill of Lodi, accompanied the mayor on an official tour of the Gurdwara library.
The mayor then joined the Sadh Sangat for Langar, celebrating the tradition of the sharing of food and friendship with the community.
