NEW DELHI: L.K.Advani recently cautioned the Center against creating obstacles in the construction of the Ram temple at Ayodhya and casting aspersions on the Kalyan Singh government in Uttar Pradesh

He was reacting to the home minister S.B. Chavans statement holding the Uttar Pradesh government prima facie responsible for the violation of the court orders for maintaining the status quo at Ayodhya and charged the former with committing an unwarranted act of indiscretion.

While refusing to discuss the question as to whether the home minister should have expressed his views on a matter that was subjudice the BIP leader felt that the statement was of a piece with earlier efforts by the government and political parties passionately opposed to the Ayodhya move: ment to create obstacles in the way of the construction of the temple and thereby malign the Kalyan Singh government.  I hope they all realize the consequences of indulging in this type of competitive anti-BJPism Advani said He asserted that this would not deter the UP government from fulfilling its mandate and that it was fully prepared to pay the price for that. The UP government will continue to function within the parameters it has set to itself i.e., not to disregard the court order But not to disregard its mandate either.

Advani also said that because of the vicious campaign let loose against the UP govt and the Ram temple movement the focus of attention at Ayodhya had shifted from the demolition of the disputed shrine to the construction of the temple.

Till one year ago the bone of contention was the name of the disputed structure but now the attention has shifted to the construction of the temple itself and a case is being made out as if it represented the greatest threat 10 communal amity he said.
