FAIZABAD(PTD: Bihar government will promulgate an ordinance for providing reservation to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, state chief minister, Laloo Prasad Yadav, said here Feb.10.
He said 26% reservation would be given to Backward Castes and 11% to the extremely backward sections.
Al present the percentage was only 20% to the OBCs in Bihar, he said, adding that 24% reservation to the SC and ST will continue in the state, The chief minister also said a permanent commission to identify OBCs will also be set up very soon to decide about the claims of the castes not mentioned in the laws.
All these measures are being taken in accordance with the orders of the supreme court, he said.
He expressed unhappiness that the former BJP government in Uttar Pradesh had not implemented these recommendations of the Mandal commission, despite the fact that the then chief minister, Kalyan Singh, belonged to the Backward Class.
