Lowa Sohan S.Hayreh, MD, PhD, Professor and Director of the Vascular Disease Service in the Department of Ophthalmology, has received a $50,000 Senior Scientific Investigator Award from Research to Prevent Blindness, Inc. (RPB), RPB Senior Scientific Investigator Awards support nationally recognized senior scientists conducting eye research at medical institutions in the United States. Dr.Hayreh is one of 58 scientistsat35 institutions so honored since the award was established in 1987. Thomas Weingeist, MD, Professor and Head of Ophthalmology, said the funds will be used to continue the exciting and innovative research that Dr.Hayreh has been doing over the past 30 years dealing with glaucoma and other ocular vascular diseases. to date, RPB has channeled more than $600,000 to the University of Iowa for research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of blinding eye diseases.
