NEW DELHI: The National Front-Left Front combine will move a no-confidence motion against the Narasimha Rao Government in the forthcoming monsoon session of Parliament starting on July 18 against its all-round failure and “anti-people” polices.
The NF-LF Co-ordination Committee meeting held at the residence of former Prime Minister V.P.Singh decided to direct the constituent parties of the combine to table notices of no-confidence against the Government which has completed a year in the office under the leadership of the Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao. This will be the first no-confidence motion against the Narasimha Rao government,
Briefing presspersons after the meeting Janata Dal MP S. Japal teddy, who is the leader of the
opposition in the Rajya Sabha, ruled out the possibility of associating with the Bharatiya Janata arty the largest opposition party n the Lok Sabha, on the no-confidence motion. “It will be an exclusive effort of the NF-LF combine,” Reddy said. He felt there was no need for asking co-operation of any other party in this regard. In the absence of co-operation between the BJP and the NFLF combine the Government does not face any threat to its existence,
The Co-ordination Committee called upon the Finance Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to resign from the council of ministers owing “moral responsibility,” in the securities scam which predictably is on the top of the agenda of which the ‘no-confidence’ is going 10 be moved. Expressing “shock and anger” in the “unprecedented and mind-boggling” bank scandal, the NF-LF leaders felt the scandal is a product of the new economic policies of the Congress Government.
The Bofors issue especially the failure of the Government to trace the identity of the person who is alleged to have handed over the controversial note to former External Affairs Minister of India at Davos is another important issue listed on which the NF-LF has decided to bring forward a ‘no-confidence motion against the Government.
The run-away rise in prices of essential commodities, the failure of the Government to streamline the Publication Distribution System despite tall claims, the increasing atrocities on weaker sections and Dalits and the Center’s failure to act on the National Integration Council resolution and allow the Bharatya Janata Party Government in UP to flout court orders are the main issues finalized by the NF-LF to form basis for moving a no-confidence motion,
Reddy said the NF-LF combine will have larger meetings afterwards to chalk out and evolve a national program of action. The floor-leaders of the NF-LF in both houses of Parliament will meet on July 7 to discuss the issues to be raised, The Janata Dal Parliamentary Party will have its session eve meeting on July 8 .
The issue of pending notice given by the NF-LF MPs seeking impeachment of the Chief Election Commissioner T.N. Session also came up for discussion at the meeting of the NF-LF Co-ordination Committee.
The meeting felt that the securities scam has eroded the confidence of the people in the banking system,
The meeting was attended by Messrs V.P.Singh, Ram Vilas Paswan, S Japal Reddy, LR. Gujral, Shrikant Jena (all Janata Dai), Inderjit Gupta (CPI), Sitaram Yechuri (CPI-M) and Southern Bhattacharya (RSP). The chairman of the National Front, N.T.
