NEW DELHI: Seven hijackers of an Indian Airlines plane on the Delhi Srinagar flight to Dubai nine years ago have been sentenced to life imprisonment by a special court at Ajmer, a CBI spokesman said here April 12.
The special court of R.K Jain passed the orders Monday against the seven Kamaljit Singh Sandhu, Amrinder Singh, Surinder Singh, Devinder Singh, Aytar Singh, Tejinder Singh and Man Singh Bagga who had hijacked IC 421 flight between Delhi and Srinagar from Chandigarh on August 24, 1984.
The accused, who wanted to take “revenge” for “Operation Bluestar” boarded the plane as passengers from Chandigarh and minutes after takeoff they announced the hijacking.
The plane was taken to Karachi and from there to Dubai where the hijackers surrendered before the authorities following negotiations on August 25.
