LUDHIANA: SGPC chief, Gurcharan Singh Tohra, recently said that the Chief Minister, Beant Singh, suffered from “Akali phobia.”

Tohra told reporters that the Chief Minister was afraid of the popularity of Akali leaders and concerned over the eroding base of his government as human rights violations were taking place and corruption was also rampant.

The SGPC chief also decried the police raid on Gurdwara Gurdarshan Prakash, Chowk Mehta, and said the government was interfering in religious matters and obstructing the spread of the Sikh faith. The Damdami Taksal was engaged only in the propagation of Sikh religious teachings, he added.
