MISSISSIPPI: Dr.Balwant Singh of Pascagoula Mississippi has announced his candidacy for the state House of Representatives District 111 seat.
A Moss Point school teacher Dr. Singh is actively involved in national state and local educational associations He is past president of Moss Point Association of Educators. Singh was elected delegate to the 1992-93 Representative Assembly of the Mississippi Association of Educators. In 1992 he was selected to serve a three year term on the Human and Civil Rights Committee of the Mississippi Association of Educators. Singh is also actively involved in the National Education Association.
A native of Punjab India Dr. Singh eared his Ph.D in elementary education and administration from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1977 and cared an educational specialist degree from Delta State University. Singh also holds a Bachelor of Arts and teaching degrees and a master’s degree in political science from Punjab University.
Actively involved in the state’s Democratic Party and voter registration efforts for the election this year Dr. Singh was elected by the Mississippi Democratic Party to serve as an elector of the Electoral College for the State of Mississippi in the 1992 Presidential Election. He is also former member of the Jackson County Democratic Executive Committee.
He is a Democratic candidate for the Mississippi House of Representatives seat this election year.
Singh is an active member of the Sikh Society of the South headquartered in New Orleans LA. He is also past president of the Sikh Society of the South. Singh was a member of the Religious and Educational Committee of the World Sikh Organization.
Dr. Singh and his wife Mohinder Kaur have two children Ravinder and Davinder. Ravinder is a graduate of Millsaps College and is currently working on his master’s degree at Georgia State University. Davinder a graduate of Yale University will be a medical student at Columbia University this fall.
