Chandigarh, (PTI) A congress worker and two militants, were killed, two persons, including a branch manager of the Punjab national bank were kidnapped and two suspected militants were arrested in the northern Indian state of Punjab.

Militants fired at the residence of the Ludhiana Rural district BJP chief, Balbir Chand Kapila at Sahnewal in the district . The militants also set the two front doors of the house on fire, a Ludhiana report added.

Relatives of Dr Kapila, who was a candidate in the recent assembly elections and was away to Bombay, raised an alarm, A BSF camp headquarter located near the railway station reached the spot immediately and fired at the militants, who, however, managed to escape.

Militants have been spearheading a campaign for a separate state for more than a decade now,
