SRINAGAR: Nine persons five of them militants were killed and while three persons including a senior functionary of the government were kidnapped in the Kashmir valley since on April 10.
Six subversives were captured and a huge quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered in searches in parts of the valley during the period. An official spokesman told reporters here on April 10.
He said Mohammad Ashraf Kakroo deputy secretary (Home) of Jammu and Kashmir government was abducted by some unidentified militants on April 10.
Kakroo was stopped at Hawas Chawk in Downtown by some militants and forced to accompany them the spokesman said.
Farooq Ahmad Banday from Hazratbal locality of the city and Mr. Nazir Ahmad a shopkeeper from Kakaporain Pulwama district were also kidnapped by militant’s official sources.
No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the three abductions so far.
One woman was killed and 16 others including two securitymen were injured in a grenade attack and subsequent firing by militants and the security forces at Lal Chawk in the heart of the city Police said.
