NEW DELHI: The ruling Congress-l is still short of four seats for having a majority in the upper house seas from Punjab in the last weeks Biennial elections.
The party’s strength has gone up to 115 in the upper house with an effective strength of 237 and eight vacancies.
“The new MPs from Punjab elected unopposed are Venod Sharma president of Chandigarh Congress-I committee Balbir Singh former Punjab minister Iqbal Singh Surinder Singla and Jagir Singh Dard.
Among the eight vacancies are three from Delhi two from Jammu and Kashmir and one each from Madhya Pradesh.
Maharashtra was nominated.
