NEW DELHI: The Indian parliament on March 27 approved the 1992-93 budgets while the finance minister in his reply expressed the hope that government would be able to bail the country out of the economic crisis by 1993-94.
There was strong protest from the opposition in the upper house that the finance minister’s speech should not be video recorded. Conceding to the opposition demand deputy chairman Najma Heptulla immediately ordered the switching off of the specially installed ARC lights and television cameras.
During his brief reply Dr. Manmohan Singh said “we will be able to go back to the high growth trajectory” achieved in the late eighties.
