SONEPAT: At least 31 prisoners of the district jail were injured in a lathi-charge by the security guards here on Wednesday following the alleged rape of the wife of an under trial by certain jail and police officials. According to reports the trouble started when the prisoners came to hear about the alleged incident and went on a hunger strike to protest against the alleged rape and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
The jail officials tried to pacify the prisoners and to end the hunger strike but failed.
The jail authorities asked the prisoners to return to their cells. On their refusal the authorities ordered lathi-charge.
