AMRITSAR: At least 16 people including two women and acid were injured when a powerful crude bomb planted by militants exploded in a crowded market in Amritsar a major city in the militancy ridden state of Punjab on March 29.

The condition of one woman was described as serious. The injured were admitted to the emergency wards of the Guru Nanak and Guru Tegh Bahadur hospitals.

Police officials said the militant placed the bomb in bag hung on cycle. It mostly contained nuts bolts and raw iron pieces.

The victims are mostly shopkeepers and customers. This is the second incident which has taken place in the locality close to the house of the Congress-I MLA in Punjab assembly, Faqir Chand, since February 21.

A militant Pradeep Singh was killed in an encounter with the police near Manimajra on the outskirts of the union territory Saturday. Some arms and ammunition was also recovered from the site.

Gurdeep Singh a militant belonging to Bhindranwale Tigers Force of Khalistan was killed in village Nangli in Amritsar district while gunmen hacked one Bawa Singh to death in village Shaura of the same district.

Gunmen shot dead four people in Waraich village in Ludhiana district. The victims were identified as Constable Sukhdev Singh Bhupinder Singh Tara Singh and Bhinder Singh.

A Panchayat member Jagjit Singh was shot dead by gunmen in Zira village in Ludhiana district while one Chamkaur Singh was gunned down in Changli village in Sangrar district.

In another incident gunmen shot dead one Daljit Singh of Dhuri in Sangrur district while a militant Kabla Singh was killed in inter gang warfare in Bathinda district.

Gunmen shot dead one Bhim Singh in Balad Khurda village of Sangrur district while one Dilbagh Singh was gunned down in Manjia village in Bathinda district.
