FAIZABAD: The state government has transferred 42 acres out of the 60 acres of land of the Ram Katha Pak situated near the disputed shrine in Ayodhya to the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas through a perpetual lease. The papers for the transfer were signed at Lucknow recently.
The remaining 18 acres not transferred includes the Kuber Tenla and some portions for which there was some litigation between the government and the tenants over its acquisition. However no portion of the 60 acre land is disputed in the Ram Janmebhoomi Balri Masjid case.
The land was acquired in 1988 by the then Congress government which prepared as 14-crore plan to develop and construct various structures connected with the Ramayan
The main feature of the leas that the project will now be executed by the Nays’ which will meet the cost from its own resources.
According to the conditions of the lease the Nays’ will pay Rs 1as. laguan for the land and will not transfer it to anyone without the prior permission of the state government. The Nays’ at present has 24 trustees and their names have been mentioned in the lease paper. It has been made obligatory to inform the stale government in case there is any change of the trustees..
The idea of constituting a trust for the construction of the Ram Temple was mooted by the VHP after it launched an agitation for the “liberation” of Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas was constituted on Dec. 18, 1985 with the objective of constructing the proposed Ram Temple at the disputed sit development of its surroundings and looking after the management of the temple.
