CHANDIGARH: A five-member delegation of Sikh scholars, led by Dr Jasbir Singh Ahluwaha, will leave here later this month for the USA, Canada and the UK to mobilize support for the move to establish a “Word University for Sikhism” at New Delhi. The delegation, which is expected to tour the three countries for about _a month, will also study the pattern of similar institutions abroad. Besides Dr Ahluwalia, the delegation includes Dr Parminder Singh, Dr Mohinder Singh, Dr Raja Singh and Dr Pushpinder Singh.
According to Dr Ahluwalia, the idea to set up the university was first mooted at the International Seminar on Sikhism and the Inter Religious Dialogue organizes at Delhi in January by the Guru Gobind Singh Foundation. The idea took a concrete shape with the setting up a 31-member panel which decided that the university should be established in phases culminating its full-fledged form fore 1999 when the 300th anniversary of the creation of the Khalsa would be celebrated. I was decided that funds for the rejects should be raised through voluntary contributions from inviduals and institutions, without yanking upon governmental underpinning. The main objective thé university will be to evolve, rough intra-religious and interreligious dialogues, ideological perspective for the future of Sikhism and Sikh society in reshaping the 21st century world society was felt that with the collapse of the Communist world-view, a new world view, in which the human spirit and freedom would have a central place, would be the essence of the new value pattern of the 21st century society and in this direction, from new for playing its historic role on the global level.
The proposed university will have a number of departments for research and interpretation by whole-time faculty members and scholars.
