Chandigarh: Six Akali and student federation groups gave a call for strike in Punjab on March 16 to coincide with the opening of the budget session of the recently elected state Assembly here.
A statement issued on behalf of the groups said that the people of Punjab would not cooperate with the non-representative government headed by Beant Singh and would observe a bandh to record their protest against the installation of the government.
The meeting was held at Ludhiana and was chaired by Baba Joginder Singh. Representatives of five other groups Badal Akali Dal Mann Akali Dal Baber Akali Dal A.I.S.S.F (Manjit) and Sikh Students Federation Mehta Chawla participated.
A.I.S.S.F spokesman thanked the public for responding to the boycott call. The boycott call The meeting also decided to hold a joint conference at Hala Mohalla at Anandpur Sahib on March 18 19 to chalk out next course of action. The meetings setup a six member group to guide the agitation in the absence of senior over ground leaders. Those are Baba Joginder Singh Jasbir Singh Ghuman Tarlok Singh Kuldip Singh Wadala Mohkam Singh and Gurcharan Singh Grewal.
The meeting warmed Beant Sing! against holding any talks with Delhi or any other state on an: talks with Deli or any other stat on any matter concerning Punjab The meeting also described the Rajiv Longowal accord as dead but did not say whether the participants wanted its implementation.
