WASHINGTON: Brave Sikh Young men and women are courting death gallantly so we may breathe an air of freedom, echoed in Sikh Foundation of Virginia on martyrs of today’s struggle in Punjab.
This program was organized by young Sikhs of Washington metro area, second in a series of commemoration of martyr’s day. The first diwan was held at Guru Gobind Singh Foundation in December 1991 and next will be GNFA in April.

Dr. Amarjit Singh, in an eloquent manner, described the present struggle in Punjab in minute details and explained the validity and necessity of independent Sikh republic Khalistan. He said that winds of freedom have changed the face of earth in 1991. Mighty Soviet empire has collapsed and in place small sovereign nations have emerged kissing the glow of freedom. Sikhs are almost at door Step of their free homeland thanks to those fearless men and women who have embraced death carrying on the glorious tradition of Shahidi.”
He further added that, “we, the Panthic Committee remain committed to the declaration of Independence by the Sikh Nation on April29,1986 in a Sarbat Khalsa.”
The vibrations of free Sikh nation lingered on even after the diwan Members of Sadh Sangat gathered in the Langar hall for an informal discussion and question answer session with the speakers and outside guests. This whole session turned out to be very useful in which many doubts about the Sikh struggle and concept about Khalistan were dispelled. S Kabul Singh, vice-president of Sikh Youth of America from N.Y. also joined with other speakers in the discussion. Dr. Rajwant Singh, president of Punjab Human Rights Organization-North America also addressed this gathering and through light on the activities of PHRO in Punjab and Romania. He emphasized that we need to ignore small differences dividing us and concentrate on the bigger danger facing our community.”
At the end, management committee of the gurdwara was thanked by the youth organizers of the program for giving cooperation and assistance This whole event: was made possible due to the efforts of young Sikhs of Dulles and National airport and especially by the work of Agyapal Singh, Bhai Lakhwinder Singh, Bhai Gurdev Singh Kang Bhai Baldev Singh Sohi and Harbhajan Singh Chahal.
