AMRITSAR: The veteran CPI leader, Satya Pal Dang, has alleged that influential persons were using the police for settling personal scores.
Three persons, Narinder Singh, Joga Singh and Harbans Singh, were picked by the police at the instance of a “powerful landlord” for their involvement in a land dispute in Khasapind village, near here. As the documentary evidence and the court order have gone in favor of Narinder Singh, the landlord has allegedly got them whisked away to “teach them a lesson.”
Dang said when the matter was brought to the notice of the Amritsar police, they pleaded ignorance about it, He urged the chief minister and the DGP to resolve the case singe it had become difficult for the family members to know their whereabouts.
In another incident, Balkar Singh, a Punjab State Electricity Board employee, was picked up by the police guards attached to a state minister’s son because he had opposed the minister’s candidate in the Panchayat elections in Gumanpura village under the Cheharta police station.
He was allegedly beaten up in the house of the minister’s son and kept hostage for two days till the local police intervened. Dang urged the Amritsar SSP to look into the case and punish the culprits.
