SAN FRANCISCO: Gurmit Singh a minor from Fatehgarh, Punjab was granted political asylum by the San Francisco asylum office. The asylum director concluded that Gurmit Singh has established 3 well-founded fear of persecution by the Indian police, if he is to return to his homeland.

Gurmit Singh was born on Baisakhi day in 1974 and came to United States on June 6, 92. On October 10, 92 he filed his request for asylum. He alleged that he sought asylum in USA on account of his political belief of seeking separation from India under the banner of All India Sikh Student Federation to carve out a new country called Khalistan (the land of the pure), He was associated with the AISSF since 1988 and represented AISSF at the district level, lecturing to public, going home to. Home and preach the reasons for separation and break away from India. Distribute hand bills, post bills and posters and take part in work stoppage civil disobedience. He claimed that he was inside the Harmandir Sahib in June 1984 as a child visiting with his parents. He was the destruction and killing of innocent Sikhs. In August85 he was arrested and held for 10 days. In May 88, beaten by police and in June 1991, his village Was searched by CRPF for arms and militants, Nothing was found in any house, Mohinder Singh, auomeyat Law, (510) 7439226, represented Gurmit Singh at the asylum office hearing. This young Sikh youth WAS Very vocal to explain his interest in freedom of the Sikhs and to run their own destinies. The asylum officer was Very much Impressed with the de Ovation of Gumnit Singh in voicing for free Dom at such a young age. This Case happens to be his 34th successful asylum granted to a Sikh.
