MODESTO CERES: A Punjabi school was started in the premises of the Gurdwara of Modesto Ceres. Named “Guru Nanak Punjabi School’ it is a center for teaching Punjabi and Sikh culture to children between six to 18 years old, 35 children are already studying here under the able guidance of Professor Kirpal Singh Gill, a well-known educationist.
The teaching staff consists of Bibi Rajbans Kaur, Bibi Harbans Kaur, Bibi Manjit Kaur Samra, Bibi Tripat Ray Grewal, and Bibi Sukhdev Grewal all of whom are providing for tuition to the children.
The school functions on Sundays between 2 p.m. to4 p.m. and besides Gurmukhi and lessons on Sikh culture, English is also taught Professor Kirpal Singh Grewal said, “the children take keen interest in learning Gurmuki and aspects of Sikh culture, however the parents need to supplement the efforts of the staff by taking greater interest in guiding their children and motivating them,” : The school treasurer Sardar Charanjit Singh Bains said, “the Sikh congregation must cooperate to make the venture more successful for the benefit of our younger generations.”
Professor Kirpal Singh Grewal and his staff are dedicated to the growth of the young Sikh generation and wish to see them grow up fully aware of their rich cultural heritage with which they can help to enrich American society.
