The Bharti Kisan Union (Lakhowal) has decided to launch agitation against the Punjab government’s move to complete construction of Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal to carry water to Haryana.
In the first phase of its stiff, the union executive committee has decided to organize a peaceful protest march in Chandigarh on July 9 next.
According to union president Ajmer Singh Lakhowal, over 3,000 farmers from all parts of the state will reach Chandigarh railway station. That day through trains from Ambala. From there they all march in a procession to Punjab Rraj Bhavan to submit a memorandum to Governor Surendra Nath.
