The Akali Dal (Manjit) has called a meeting of opposition parties of Punjab on July 15 at Chandigarh to hold discussions on the river water dispute and the Chief Minister, Beant Singh’s announcement indicating his intention to construct the Satluj Yammuna Link (SYL) canal for carrying water to Haryana.
The party has also decided to invite all likeminded Congress(l) leaders such as Jagmeet Singh Brar and Surinder Singh Kairon, both MPs, and Punjab Irrigation and Power Minister Harcharan Singh Brar who openly oppose the Chief Minister’s idea to the construct the SYL.
Manjit Singh said that his party would write to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to construct a memorial at Akal Takht in the memory of all those who were killed inside the Golden Temple complex during Operation Bluestar.
