PANAJI (PTI): The first prehistoric granite rock carvings in GOA have been found on as tone block in Kanjur village of Quepem subdivision. Director of GOA archives Dr P.P.Shirodkar said though people were worshipping the rock no one was aware of the carvings Oni, as it was covered with mud. The carvings appear to be of Mesolithic period (8000 to 2500 B.C.), he said, The entire 20 kms area around the place appears to be a zone of carving, he said adding that the Periphery of the stone indicates later settlements of the megalithic Period (from 1500 B.Sc. to second century A.D). The two Stone Age carvings, one a laterite rock bed and the other a granite one, have carved a prominent place for GOA on the map of prehistoric India.
