JAMMU (PTT): Official sources in Jammu, the state’s winter capital, said security forces had taken stringent security measures along the line of control in border districts of Poonch and Rajoun following reports that Pakistan’s Inter Intelligence Service (ISI) has intensified its activities near the LOC by bringing 5000 to 8000 Pak-trained Kashmiri militants to escalate violence and militancy in the state.
They. Said one ISI official was shot dead while trying to sneak into the Indian side from Mendher area of Poonch district while four of his accomplices managed to escape.
Three were killed recently in Rajoun a Poonch sectors when a large group tried to cross over to India from Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Official sources said Pakistani troops had resorted to unprovoked firing on Indian positions in an attempt 16 push militants into the Indian side. A high vigil was being exercised and troops were put on full alert near LOC to frustrate any further attempt of the militants to sneak into Indian side along with consignments of sophisticated weapons and ammunition. A defence spokesman said in Jammu said some militants of the pro Pak Al Jehad outfit, nabbed in Poonch sector, said ding interrogation that they were kept in houses at (near LOC) during the visits of American and U.N. teams on May 12andtold by the Pak Intelligence not to divulge any information that might prove to be a clinching evidence of Pakistan’s involvement in Jammu region.
