PATNA: At an impressive sadbhavna rally for communal harmony here Jan.20, opposition leaders blamed the Center for demolition of the Babri mosque and sought the immediate resignation of the Prime Minister, P.V.Narasimha Rao.

The rally organized jointly by the National Front and Left Front, was attended among others, by the former Prime Minister and SJP president, Chandra Shekhar, the West Bengal chief minister, Jyoti Basu, the CPI leader, Indrajit Gupta, and the Bihar chief minister, Laloo Prasad Yadav.

Basu accused Narasimha Rao of betraying the Left Front on the Ayodhya issue. He regretted that though the Left Front had often extended help to Rao, the latter had preferred to rely on the BJP. The demolition of the Babri mosque was a fall out of this.

He alleged that the BJP was being backed by the Congress and the latter remained a silent spectator to the demolition. Questioning the secular credentials of the Congress, Basu described Wednesday’s rally as a grand success.

Chandra Shekhar said those responsible for the Dec.6 incident at Ayodhya had rejected the Constitution. He blamed the Prime Minister for the Ayodhya incident and expressed fears that the forces which had destroyed the Babri mosque may demolish the Taj Mahal also.

The Bihar chief minister reiterated his call to de Brahmanize the posts of Shankaracharyas.

Ram Bilas Paswan, Janata Dal vice-president, said a massive rally would be held in New Delhi on March 23 to press for the Prime Minister’s resignation. He apprehended that the BJP might replace the Congress at the Center,

Indrajit Gupta of the CPI feared the country might disintegrate. He alleged that there was an international conspiracy from western powers to create disturbances in the country.

George Fernandes landed Laloo Yadev for controlling the riots. The former Union home minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, spoke about the emotional disintegration in the country doe to the Dec.6 incidents.
