Srinagar: An indefinite curfew was imposed in the southern Kashmir district town of Anantneg while the captors of the regional research laboratory director A.K. Dhar threatened to kill him five of their jailed colleagues were released. An official said that the dusk to dawn curfew was imposed as a precautionary measure.
A spokesman of Ikhwan-Ul-Muslimeen responsible for kidnapping Dhar said that if the demand was not met by 2PM Jan. 21. Dhar would be killed and his body dumped at the city limits. He said the Jan 21 date was chosen because on that date 50 youths were killed by security forces when during a march in 1990 the forces opened fire on a peaceful procession at Gowkadal.
