NEW DELHI(PTI): Indefinite curfew was imposed on several areas of the walled city here following large scale violence and group clashes Jan.27. Police said groups of people fought pitched battles and threw stones forcing them to impose curfew in the affected areas of Jama Masjid and nearby areas including Darysgany.
Reports of shootout were also received from some parts of the walled city but there is no information yet about any loss of life or property: AS the violence spread to adjoining localities police resorted 19 baton charge and lobbed larges According to residents of Daryaganj the violence erupted following a controversy in a place of worship.
Tuesday, some residents of the walled city greeted the Republic Day parade with black flags. The area has been tense since Dec.6 last, when the 16th century mosque was demolished at Ayodhya.
