CHANDIGARH: Attempts are being made to hush up the case Against a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) are who allegedly fired at and killed a security guard of Chief Minister Beant Singhand stnously injured another while they were on duty outside the local cricket stadium. (The stadium was the venue of the one day match between India and England).

It is learned that Punjab Police Additional Director General R.K.Sharma, who is also holding the charge of Inspector General of CRPF, has been asked to ensure that no adverse statement are is

Al sued against, the DSP, Devinder Thakur, by any CRPF jawan who was eyewitness to the firing episode.

Moreover, Sub Inspector Surendra Dev, who “snatched™ the pistol used by the DSP, is being compelled to say that the firing was accidental. According to knowledgeable sources, he is being threatened that a case would be registered against him if he does not support the theory of accidental firing.

There is great resentment among the CRPF jawans and officers.

Many of whom are deployed for protection of VIP’s in Punjab. They feel that under the present circumstance an impartial probe into the firing incident is impossible.

The Administration had ordered a probe into the incident the joint probe was to be conducted by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Suresh Arora, and the Additional Deputy Inspector General of the CRPF, S.C.Mahindru. But, following Sharma’s intervention, the concerned CRPF officers are being told what they simply sign Arora’s enquiry should report.
