BOMBAY: The percentage of prostitutes in Bombay that have the human immune deficiency virus (HIV) has zoomed up from 11% in 1990 to 32% in 1991 if this. Pervasive disease spreads its tentacles on the warmed and the unwarned.
‘That means from 11000 prostitutes infected with this fatal virus the number of prostitutes infected has increased to 32000 in a year says Dr. I. S. Gilada of the International Health Organization citing ICMR statistics.
Simultaneously the population of prostitutes has increased from about 80000 in the early eighties to 100000 in the 1990s says Sikka of the Tata Institute of Social service.
