LUDHIANA: The Punjab Human Rights Organization PHRO has found alive the man who was alleged to have been killed by the Kapurthala Police in an encounter in July 1989. The man’s Joginder Singh of Kala Sanghian village in Kapurthala district. He wants to live as a dead just to settle his wife and children in U.K.

The PHRO received a request letter from M/S Hands worth Law Center Birmingham U.K. to find out whether their client Joginder Kaur and her family had suffered any persecution at the hands of the Indian Security Forces as her husband Joginder Singh had already been killed by the police in an encounter. To help the Law Firm the PHRO Chairman D.S. Gill General Secretary Mohinder Singh Grewal and advocate Anmol Singh Grewal visited the Kala Sanghian village and found Joginder Singh alive.

The Administration Secretary Gurbhajan Singh Gill had written to the law firm that Joginder Singh as neither did not kill nor any member of his family was ever subjected to any harassment and persecution by the police. AS a matter of fact Joginder Singh had forged the police records in connivance with certain police officials in order to get benefit of the Punjab impasse for settling his family abroad. Meanwhile the PHRO in a statement issued to the Press here strongly condemned the detention Of Sikh political activists Professor Baljinder Singh Virsa Singh Valtoha Rajinder Singh Mehta Amarjit Singh Chawla and others under NSA. These arrests the statement added are indicative of the fact that the claims of the Central Government to restore democracy in Punjab are a total farce.

The organization has supported the proposed bandh call for January 7. It also condemned the raids by the police at the residence of BKU leader Ajmer Singh Lakhowal.
