SRINAGAR: Nine persons, including two militants, were killed and more than 230 structures gutted in different fire incidents in* Jammu and Kashmir since April 19.

Thirteen militants, were captured in parts of the Kashmir valley during the period, an official spokesman told newspersons.

J&K governor K.V.Krishna Rao is determined to end militancy, bring back normalcy.

This task would be easier for him if cooperation was forthcoming from all sections of the society in the state.

He expressed confidence that he would be able to accomplish this task with correct deployment and operation of security forces, a responsive administration and help of politicians and others.

He said the law and order situation in Kashmir valley would improve and conditions made conducive for politicians to function and common man to carry on their avocation without fear. This would pave way for democratic process and installation of a duly elected government of the choice of the people, he said.

“There is no alternative for democracy,” he said, democracy is the best institution for public good.

The governor said strict instructions have been issued to the security forces that while maintaining pressure on the militants they should conduct their operations without harassment and inconvenience to the general public.

Reassuring people of free and fair elections, Gen Rao said that they were at liberty to choose a government of their own choice and he would hand over power to the elected government.

Referring to the problem of unemployment, he said the issue has been engaging his attention. He said during his recent visit to Delhi, he had discussed it with the central leaders who have promised to provide about 10,000 posts in different central organizations for the educated unemployed youth of the state.
