MADRAS(PTI): In a bid to cover up its tracks in former Indian premier Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) leadership had ordered prime accused one eyed Sivarasan and standby assassin Subha, to bum themselves in the event of a official raid on their hideouts.
The designated court conducting the case trial was told last week.
Resuming his narration of the prosecution’s case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) counsel, Jacob Danicl, told the judge, S.M.Siddickk, that the LTTE’s top leader in India, ‘Penya’ Santhan alias ‘Gundu’” Santhan. in his Letter to an Indian LTTE activist, Inumburai, dated Sept.7,1991, said, Raghuvaranalias Sivarasanand his panic-stricken associates died on account last minute action,
Santhan had ordered Sivarasan and the others to bum themselves to destroy any evidence as they were, by that me, well identified by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
But the confused Subha and five others committed suicide by swallowing cyanide, while Sivarasan shot himself with his nine mm pistol when their hide out in Konanakunte, near Ban galore in Karnataka state, was surrounded by SIT and police on Aug.19,1991, he said.
