NEW ORLEANS,LA: Dr. Balminder Singh Mangat ran a 10 km race known as “The New Or leans Crescent City Classic.” He has been participating in this race from the last three years. During March this year, in spite of the rainy day and his hurt leg, he completed the race by 52 minutes and 17 seconds! The Crescent City Classic Athletics meet was started in 1978 and athletes from all over the world participate in it Dr. Mangat is a successful and well known psychiatric doctor in New Orleans. Athletics’ is his hobby. He also played hockey when he was student at Banaras Hindu University, He has great regard for other sportsmen, Recently the ex-Olympic champion of triple jump, S. Mohinder Singh Gill from Turlock, CA, visited New Orleans. When Mangat learned that Gill was in town, he was really over excited.”
“My favorite athlete of my college days is sitting with me in my house what a wonderful feeling it is Let us give Mr. Gill a VIP treatment,” said Mangat. He re called the days of 1970’s when Gill refused to represent India and a very famous film star specially came to USA to request Mr. Gill to join the Indian team.
Recently Dr. Mangat arranged a loan of $100,000 for the construction of Gurdwara Sahib in New Orleans. Which is expected to be completed in about a month. Dr. Mangat is the President of the Sikh Society of South, New or leans, and the Director of Finance for the construction of gurdwara Sahib.
