NEW DELHI(PTI): The Central Bureau of Investigation March 12 said that appeals have been filed in the highest court of Switzerland against the decision of the Geneva cantonal court to release information in Bofors case.
The CBI spokesman said here that the bureau received information from the Indian embassy in Switzerland that appeals have been filed in the federal court in Lausanne,
Seven appeals have been filed against the January 29 decision by the Geneva court which ordered release of details of bank accounts in Switzerland suspected to be holding payments from the Swedish arms firm, Bofors.
The petitioners who had 30 days’ time to approach the court, are protected by Swiss secrecy law which also protects the names of the holders of the six coded Swiss bank accounts the details of which the premier investigation agency of the country was seeking.
The Swiss Authorities had approved a first request from the government of India for legal assistance in 1990 and blocked some bank accounts,
The CBI has sought details of five bank accounts in Geneva and one in Zurich, the spokesman added.
