NEW DELHI: Home Minister S.B.Chavan on March 10 said the situation was still not conducive for elections in Jammu and Kashmir in the immediate future.
He said the Parliamentary delegation that had visited the State had reported that elections could not be held until normalcy re turned.
Chavan said no decision had been taken on the “voluntary offer” by Girish Chandra Saxena to quit as Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. The Home Minister said he did not know what was the “motivation” for Saxena to make such an offer. “The question of succession will come up only if his resignation is accepted,” Chavan said in reply to a question.
On the reported differences between Saxena and Minister of State for Home Rajesh Pilot, Chavan said, “I do not know what is going on between the two.”
Asked whether new thought was being given to Amnesty’s request to be allowed to go to the valley, he said if they did “objective re porting™ from there they could be allowed.
