BHOPAL: The Sword of Damocles hangs over Vice Chancellors of Universities who have been connected with the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) and appointed by its political arm the BJP.
There are 14 universities in Madhya Pradesh, including the Makhanial University cum Institute for Journalism at Bhopal. Of these eight are headed by Vice Chancellors who reportedly are reported to have a fanatic Hindu background. They were appointed by the erstwhile Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government. According to sources, these Vice Chancellors are likely to be sacked.
Dr. Umrao Singh Choudhari (Devi Abilvyahai University Indore), Prof Raj Lalan Singh (Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur), Prof D.P.Singh (Awadhesh Pratap Singh University, Rewa), Dr.Raj Kumar Nandgaonkar (Vikram University, Ujjain), Dr.K.L.Kashyab (Ravi Shankar University, Raipur) and Dr,Sarayu Keleker (Indira Art and Music University, Khairagarh) are the Vice Chancellors who are under threat Apart from this, there is a similar threat to Director General of the Makhanlal University and Institute for Journalism at Bhopal, R.Sharma, Sharma, who edited the Chandigarh-based Hindi daily Dainik Tribune earlier has also been linked with the RSS.
Likewise, action may also be taken against Vice Chancellor of the Chitrakoot Rural University
Nanaji Deshmukh. The ouster of Dr. Om Nagpal, who is Chairperson of the Madhya Pradesh University Grants Commission (UGC), is also being demanded on the plea that he too has close links with the RSS.
