The platform of the Democratic convention at New York was echoing with slogans of ‘vision’ and “change.” This was an excellent speech and it has brought a change in the White House.
Heartiest congratulations on winning the election. Sikhs have had a ‘vision ‘of an ‘autonomous Punjab’ in India since 1973. Sikhs are best known as “saint soldiers’ and arc front runners in all walks of life. In 1973, they passed a resolution called “Anandpur Sahib Resolubon’ requesting govt of India to grant an “autonomous status to Punjab and other states and establish federal system. Rather than appreciating their vision, Sikhs are being harassed, killed and in fact genocide of Sikhs is happening throughout India. After attacking the Golden Temple (Sikhs holiest shrine) with guns, tanks and troops in 1984, Sikh youths are still killed in fake encounters in Punjab.
Jimmy Carter (ex-president) talked about America being a ‘champion’ of Human Rights in the world at the convention. Unfortunately when topic of human rights violations in Punjab and other states in India is discussed and brought to the attention of congressmen and senators, most of them tum their faces away. The extent of human rights violations is apparent from the fact that “Amnesty International” had allocated *1992″ as their main target of violations in India. India is democratic only on paper, in reality it is disintegrating because of atrocities and killings being inflected upon the minorities.
